The entire project basically took one day including creating page, securing or creating graphics, setting up hosting.

This project was quicker than usual as Bob had exactly what he wanted already available for layout and it only required one page to accomplish. It was just a question of converting to HTML and images, then getting it online.

The IT Excellence Institute  is dedicated to answering Peter Drucker’s challenge, that the greatest contribution management needs to make in the 21st century, is to increase the productivity of  knowledge workers.

Today’s launch is timed to coincide with Frank presenting the Keynote at CIO Perspectives in New York.

The site is built using a customized instance of WordPress linked to MailChimp for email newsletter registrations.

The site includes information on the various groups that collectively make up the ‘Raider Bands’ including the Marching Band, Curricular Bands, Winterguard, Ensembles – plus information for ‘Band Parents’, students and alumni.

As a community service to our home town we’re hosting this site and providing ongoing maintenance at no charge.

It took a little research time, as well as some reverse engineering of another canned jquery ‘slider’ to change its default transition direction to get the slide effect working the way it was specified in the design.  Then some CSS issues to resolve to  integrate a new block of functionality into the wordpress blog they were using for the new site, but Blue Larch to the rescue!

We’re not a high priced design and development firm, but we aren’t ‘cheap’ either – somewhere in the middle.  Hiring a ‘cheap’ developer (or anything for that matter) may prove to be a false economy in the long run – you sometimes really do just get what you pay for!

Moral of this tale : cheaper isn’t always better, and can sometimes even becomes more expensive in the long run.

Work with someone you know will be there for you and will see the project through to completion.

Update: just thought I’d mention that the jquery slider they were originally using was “nivo” (http://nivo.dev7studios.com/), which is a very nice component.  Works nicely in WordPress, just didn’t do the exact things required for this project.  The slider I took and customized was “slides” (http://slidesjs.com/).

There are tons of solutions out there all with just a little different take on what controls and functions they handle ‘out of the box’.
